Elections- April 8

If you plan on running for the 2008-9 Executive Board, please be sure to carefully read the information below. PLEASE PREPARE A BRIEF (1-2 MINUTE) SPEECH stating why you deserve to be elected. Any academic, professional, or extracurricular credentials are helpful. Also, please be sure to let everyone know if you have been involved with any PRSSA activities, and what you have done. PLEASE NOTE: The addition of the proposed PRSA Liaison duties and the additional Event Coordinator position will be decided on April 1.
The Duties and Obligations of
Boston University’s PRSSA Executive Board Members:

Dear Candidate,

Thank you very much for your interest in running for the 2008-9 Executive Board! The E-board works as a tight-knit team to give each and every PRSSA member the best experience possible. Although each e-board member has his or her respective duties to perform, everyone should provide support to the other members and help wherever and whenever necessary. Please e-mail buprssa@gmail.com if you have any questions.

You can certainly run for more than one position, but you must start with the highest position and drop down should you not get elected to your desired position. For example, if you desire to run for president and are not elected, you may drop down and then run for vice president. We will announce the winners after each of the position elections, and will vote in the order of the positions below.

Please note that you must notify us if you plan to study abroad or graduate early during the year you wish to serve. Please try to find someone to run with to take your position when you are gone. (For example, if you plan to study abroad in the fall, you should try to find someone who will serve the same position in the fall, and who maybe will be studying in the spring or graduating early.)

Elections will be held during one of our regular meetings on April 8. Please e-mail buprssa@gmail.com by Monday, April 7, by 5 p.m. and state your name, your full name, graduation date, the position for which you'd like to run, if you are running with someone else, and if so, which semester each of you will be in office. Please prepare a brief (1-2 minute) speech explaining why you deserve to be in office.

Good Luck!

Spectrum Arts Festival PR team

At our meeting this past week we had CFA Government President Jay Youmans come in to discuss the Spectrum Arts Festival. The two-week long event includes several live performances at the Prudential Center, a production of The Barber of Seville by Boston University’s Opera Institute and ends with a gala event benefitting VH1 Save the Music Foundation. The CFA student government needs help with the media relations aspect of the festival, including organizing a press conference and pitching the story. As Deborah Halliday from the BU Office of Career Services explained, there is no difference between volunteering your time for an event such as this and doing an internship. This is a great resume building opportunity. If you would like to learn more about the festival and get involved take a look at the website www.bu.edu/spectrumarts and contact Jay at cfagov@bu.edu or 914-456-9296.

New PRSSAgency Clients

PRSSAgency has just acquired two new clients. We will be working with the BU Peace Concert, a coalition of student groups organizing a concert to promote peace and commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The concert will take place in April at Metcalf Hall. We will also be working with the BU Spectrum Arts Festival being organized by the CFA student government. The event includes live public performances by several well-known CFA students and alumni, along with an opera performance, gallery showcase and gala fundraiser for VH1 Save the Music. Both clients would provide a great opportunity for anyone interested in entertainment and arts PR or event planning. If you are interested in working on these accounts or would like more information e-mail biana101@hotmail.com. Thanks!

Gain Work Experience With Porter Novelli

Porter Novelli is looking for a few good internationally minded college men and women at Boston College, Boston University, Harvard, MIT, for a 2 month marketing/street team gig with Porter Novelli and Mobivox, a very low cost International VoIP calling service.

They are looking to build a team of 12 interns, 3 from each school, to spread the word and do guerilla marketing on their campuses to get fellow students to sign up and test and try Mobivox. This is great marketing/PR experience for your resume! Prefer Internationally-focused students, sophomores or juniors, marketing or PR majors preferred. And again, those with person connections to other countries best as you will really want to use, and demo, the Mobivox solution.

Requirements would be work, around class time, for the entire months of March and April, likely no more than 20-30 hours total. “Reward” is resume building experience, work with Porter Novelli, and a 1 in 12 chance to win an iPhone – most effective street team member will win.

If interested, or you know someone who is, please contact Melissa Smolensky at Porter Novelli, Melissa.smolensky@porternovelli.com, 512-241-2232

entail drafting press releases and doing outreach to local publications and media. This is a great opportunity for someone interested in a Spring Internship. This is something that is very flexible and they are willing to provide a small stipend for your work.

Below is the contact information! Andrea happens to be my roommate's mom and is really nice! Email or call her at her office if you are interested and want more information. Let her know you are from
